It is also exposing our weak leadership in the Congress, but on the bright side the economy is much better positioned now with business already downsized to with stand the pressure. Jobless numbers are in: and they are not Good

It seems that the big stimulus has yet to hit the market place, it’s just starting to trickle in.  Public School construction was moving at a good pace but  has slowed.  Most states are cutting back on education spending so that sector is part of the jobless picture.

It will be interesting to see what the long-term implication for education turn out to be.  Most commercial cutbacks end up improving productivity, so in a public sector it could work the same, only the next school year will give the results.

I have run into lots of angry educators concerning the cuts.  I have also been in some schools where the use of resources seems to be somewhat wasteful.  A funding cut will generate tighter management of the resources.   If only the cuts were determined by productivity it could be very positive in the long run.  It is definitely painful in the near term.

Stephen Shang was interviewed by Everything Internet Radio show on the Biz Radio network. Stephen Shang is the co-founder of Falcon storage. He and his partner started out in Silicon Valley and after the .com bust found themselves going from High Tech to low tech business. Taking what they learned from working with Internet technology they were able to beat their competition and build a very successful onsite storage business. They started out buying surplus shipping containers and renting them to construction companies. They have expanded to provide many uses for their storage containers including storage of excess inventories and short term storage needs. They have designed barns, and other buildings that are built from the shipping containers. Recycling shipping container has proven to be a creative and profitable venture.

Newspaper circulation has been on a steady decline and the traditional newspaper is under attack.  There are daily stories about newspapers that are laying off staff.  Many of the newly laid off are writers who are now looking on ways to adapt to the new media world.  Clearly the Internet is the reason for the demise of the local paper.  Craig’s list has just about replaced traditional classified advertising.  Newspapers are adding video to their news stories and moving to online services as quickly as possible.  Traditional TV stations are adding classifieds and more robust web sites to redirect advertising dollars.  It is only a matter of time with online video increasing viewers that the classical TV model will be changing like the newspapers.
